Not everyone has the chance to make their musical debut at Daddy Yankee’s farewell concert. Choché Romano, a regular television presenter and event host, is aware that what happened to him on October 22 and 23 was something extraordinary.
Romano, 36, was introduced for the first time as DJ Choché, a facet that only his closest ones knew. “I am a fever”, he assured him in conversation with Live.

Choché got into the world of music mixing seven years ago, DJing parties for family and friends. “I have always seen it as a way to de-stress, as a hobby,” he says.
Romano has always been a fan of music. He learned to play the drums at the age of 12 and has belonged, in his own words, to “countless” praise bands since he was a teenager. “Sensitivity to music is not something far away for me,” he says.
Upon reaching the age of majority, Choché became more interested in training as an announcer and presenter, but his melomania always grew over the years.
The story of how he learned to use the mixing turntable is particular: his lifelong friend, the DJ Mario Castro, suggested that he get involved in the trade. Castro’s son Christian ended up mentoring him, advising him on which turntable he should buy, and they started having teaching sessions.
“It was beautiful because we would go to the house, we would spend talking, drinking coffee and we would stay mixing until ten at night. I discovered that I was fascinated by it, but I never thought I would go from mixing into something small, ”she assures.

In a pandemic, due to the closure of bars and clubs, Choché and his mentor made a series of live broadcasts where he began to practice mixing. Thousands of people logged on for those “virtual parties” in which Romano gained confidence.
Finally, Choché let go. With the recovery from the pandemic, weddings, parties with friends appeared and Romano always raised his hand to at least have an hour at the turntable and kill fever.
Of course: he never considered that he could appear in front of more than 30,000 people, as happened last weekend at the National Stadium, where he was one of the opening acts for Daddy Yankee.
It was Eduardo Quirós, a member of Arceyut Producciones (the company in charge of the event) who proposed his great debut. Along with Tapón, Jair Cruz and Tony Tiger, Choché presented himself with another facet, leaving the audience surprised.
“I had nightmares all week,” says Choché with a laugh. “I was scared. A turntable is not the same as a microphone; I went by asking God that my computer wouldn’t crash in the middle of the concert. I was in that panic,” he says.
In the end, there was nothing to worry about: for two nights, Choché fulfilled an unexpected dream that holds more events like this for her. “The exposure allowed me to be booked as a DJ for more events. I didn’t imagine this would happen, but I’m happy trying, ”he concludes.
