Becky G, the international singer who prefers to “break schemes”

With a schedule full of appointments and triumphing on the world’s playlists, American singer Becky G continues to break ground with her new hit Lovers with the Spaniard Daviles De Novelda, a song that mixes the bachata of the former with the sounds of flamenco and rap of the latter.

This song is the artist’s first bachata, which shows both as a soloist and in collaborations that there is no musical challenge that can resist her because she has avoided pigeonholing herself since she began her career, according to what she said in an interview with EFE during her visit to Spain to participate in the Urban District festival.

“I feel that I was born to break the mold and to show that, as a woman and as an artist, I am capable of offering much more than what I am pigeonholed into. Mixing, changing, elevating, creating different styles is fun for me and I think that in that process I have broken many schemes, ”explains the artist, who is recording the video clip in Spain with the Spanish singer.

As has happened with their latest songs, shortly after Becky G and De Novelda published Lovers, the single went viral and in a few days it managed to be a success. “The truth is that I am very grateful to my fans, I am not used to that happening because I make music because I enjoy it,” she acknowledges.

At just 25 years old, the American singer with Mexican roots has become one of the most established artists of the urban genre in the music industry.

This is reflected in his eleven nominations for the Latin Billboards awards that are delivered on September 29 in Miami (USA) and his four nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards on November 18 in Las Vegas.

“I feel super grateful, really. It feels very nice to know that the industry, my colleagues and other artists support me and recognize my work. Although, really, I want to thank all these nominations and all this beautiful thing that is happening to my fans, because without them I would not be here, so they are the ones who are nominated, ”she comments. Whatever happens on those two award nights, she already feels like a winner, she added.

explore its origins

Although now the singer confesses that she is focused on new collaborations and finishing some concerts that she had pending, she is also working on a “very personal and important” project about her origins.

“Although I started singing urban music and reggaeton and that is the genre in which I move the most, my dream has always been to sing something related to my Mexican roots, something more traditional, get together with a mariachi or some Mexican singer. Now I am working on this project -advances-, which I hope will see the light of day next year”.

However, he acknowledges that he does not want to rush the project as it is a “very special” album, which would be dedicated to his grandparents — “I would not be here if it were not for them,” he says — and that is why he prefers to cook it over a fire slow.
