There are few musical concepts that manage to leave an indelible mark on the international music industry and not only that, they also manage to become a benchmark of their genre for talents seeking to follow in their footsteps. Such is the case of Babasonicsthe legendary Argentine band that for approximately 31 years has managed to remain true to its essence with new songs resulting from his experimentation with multiple sounds.

The group is about to return to Mexico to present Trenchhis new record album and in an exclusive interview for Infobae Mexico Diego Tuñón was honest about the changes in his creative process as a band in the face of the restrictions derived from the COVID-19 pandemic, praised his career and shared some details about his next concert in Aztec lands.

The musician confessed that short compositions were sent that became songs.

To begin with, the Argentine musician commented that his recently released single, Trench, was composed during the sanitary restriction: “For the first time we had, for 31 years, Babasonics is together, that spending two or three months without speaking or speaking little to each other and of course almost 9 months without seeing each other, but in between there was communication with bits of music that we were sending each other by phone”.

Tuñón said that during that time all the members worked on new music and used sounds from various genres to find the ideal melody. This is not something new, because during their career they have tried to do the same with each theme, in fact, the left of the night -another song from his new album- had 15 versions before it was released.

The album is the result of what it means to take the time to try different ways of singing a melody. […] It took a long time of testing, experimentation, listening, generating sounds.

Each member has different musical tastes, but that has not been an impediment for them to continue creating together, on the contrary, their vision enriches their songs. In fact, Diego Tuñón considers himself fortunate to work with his colleagues whom he considers to be his “perfect partners”.

“We really like to propose the possibility of combining these elements: bolero with rap instrumentation, disco music with heavy metal, orchestral music or bossa nova with a song that has more to do with rock… different artists have generated us throughout history”, he declared.

Likewise, the Argentine musician acknowledged that they have not only followed their instinct during these three decades of experience, they have also taken up in their new songs some sounds that have worked for them before, something that could be considered their essence.

“The group works introspectively […] in the shows one can see the impact that perhaps something can generate, a sound, a word, a rhythm, but always, when it comes to building a song, you know that when you go out into the world some will like it and others won’t, you have to be okay with it because you also take the liberty of provoking certain things”, he continued.

The musician spoke about the central theme of Trinchera.

It was in this context that he spoke out in favor of freedom of expression, the central theme of his single Trench:

“Freedom in all kinds of ways is always very important. I think that Trench speaks of the freedom to put your feelings and sensations into words, that always has to be well received and that no one can forbid you what to say, or what to do, or how to say it, or how to do it as long as you can abide by the consequences of what that you are generating”, he commented.

Finally, he explained that among his plans as a group is not to make collaborations because they want to stay pure and confessed that so far they have no plans to have special guests in the concert they will offer in Mexico on February 11 at the Palacio de los Deportes.

“It is in our plans not to make a collaboration, our plan is never to make a collaboration to be pure, it is not that it bothers me that other people do it, but we like to be pure. Babasónicos is dying pure.
