Guadalajara (Mexico), Jan 14 (EFE).- The concert of the neo-Nazi rock band Der Stürmer (DS), from Greece, which was trying to take place on Friday in the city of Guadalajara, capital of the state of Jalisco (west of Mexico), was cancelled, the municipality of this city reported this Saturday.
“The Directorate of Inspection and Surveillance of the Government of Guadalajara informs that it is not known that the concert of the Greek band Der Stürmer, scheduled for Friday, January 13, has taken place,” he announced in an information sheet released this Saturday.
The municipality assured that, at the request of civil society groups that requested that the concert not take place, it did not grant permission for it to be held.
In addition, it carried out an inspection operation with 32 supervisions in city spaces such as bars, cultural centers, galleries and forums where said event could have taken place.
The mayor of the city, Pablo Lemus, affirmed that although the place of the concert was not disclosed, with information from the intelligence work of the city’s surveillance system, they were able to locate at least two possible places.
The lyrics of the songs of the band DS, founded in 1998, address topics such as National Socialism, war, anti-Semitism and racism. The name Der Stürmer corresponded to the most popular National Socialist and anti-Semitic propaganda weekly tabloid in Germany between 1923 and 1945.
The publicity for the concert that circulated on social networks indicated that interested people should request their tickets in private, in addition to making it known that they could meet in a city park to be driven to the concert venue.
Local authorities indicated that they did not identify the activity in said park.
A few days ago, a group called “Coordinadora Antifascista Guadalajara” called on civil society through social networks to prevent the concert from taking place and asked the music promoters and the city council to make it possible for it not to happen.
“We call on the promoters of neo-Nazism in Mexico, the promoters of the concert and the participating rock metal bands to abandon the idea of holding this concert that undoubtedly attacks us all,” they said. EFE
