Australia prepares a funeral in the form of a concert for Olivia Newton-John

Sydney (Australia), 11 Aug. The Australian authorities are preparing an official funeral in the form of a concert to pay tribute to the singer and artist Olivia Newton-John, born in the United Kingdom and raised in the oceanic country, according to official sources reported on Thursday.

“It will be more of a concert than a funeral. It will be an appropriate celebration for such a rich and generous life,” said the head of government of the southeastern state of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, in statements collected today by the Australian public network ABC.

The details of that official act, which still has no date or a specific program, nor is the specific place where it will be held, will be discussed with the family of Newton-John, which, according to Andrews, felt “moved” before the proposal.

The city of Melbourne (capital of the state of Victoria), where the artist grew up, and which is home to several of her projects, such as the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center, illuminated its emblematic buildings on Tuesday in rose in his honor.

The Sydney Opera House was also lit up in that color last night.

The remembered protagonist of the musical film “Grease” will be buried in the American city where she lived with her husband, John Easterling, her Australian niece, Totti Goldsmith, told the local network Nine on Tuesday.

Newton-John died on Monday at his home in southern California (USA) at the age of 73, after having suffered from cancer for long periods of his life.

The interpreter of “Magic” was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, when she began to support cancer research and treatment, and although she managed to keep the tumor in remission until 2017, that year the doctors detected that it had spread to other parts of his body. EFE
