An Arizonan represents Hispanic culture on The Voice by singing ‘Cielito Lindo’

13-year-old Reina Ley performed “Cielito Lindo” causing two of the four judges to fight over her.

PHOENIX — An Arizona teen made a splash on hit TV show The Voicewhich returns to the screens for the 22nd season. The young woman was applauded not only by the public, but also by two judges who fought over her.

Tuesday, September 21 marked the second day of blind auditions of the season, and the show kicked off with an impressive audition.

Mariachi singer Reina Ley, 14, was the first audition of the night and immediately impressed trainers Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Camila Cabello after her soulful performance of “Cielito Lindo.”

Even at the end of the song, Reina Ley and Camila Cabello began to talk in Spanish, establishing a very nice connection.

“My queen, how incredible is your voice,” said Cabello at the end of the song.

After expressing that she was happy that Reina had sung with mariachi, Cabello said she felt “proud of our culture.”

And when it was Judge Gwen Stefani’s turn to congratulate and chat with Reina, she asked the wrong question…

“Who is your idol?” he asked.

“Camila Cabello” replied Reina pointing to the judge.

Both judges made it very clear that although they like each other, they would fight for the young Arizonan. Who, of course, did not miss an opportunity to select Cabello as his coach.

Who is Queen?

Reina is the daughter of César and Alejandrina Ley, in addition to having a little sister named Ariana.

Reina’s father was born in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa and her mother in Phoenix but with many Mexican roots.

The young woman began singing at the age of 9 and her parents realized that she had a special voice.

He sang at parties and even at church where the family goes. Now, we will wait for the second audition to find out if Reina can continue advancing to the next round.
