The famous Hollywood actress susan sarandon was arrested on Monday in NY while taking part in a protest called by the non-governmental non-profit organization One Fair Wage, when they were demanding a fair wage for the state’s waiters after they were excluded from the planned increase in the minimum wage.
According to US press reports, Sarandon was captured along with former New York gubernatorial candidate Ana María Archila and eight other people in Albany, the state capital, after they caused riots at the state Capitol. After being arrested, the actress and the other people were taken to the police station to be booked and fined, however, a short time later they were released.
The demonstration in which Susan Sarandon was arrested, and in which tipped waitress mothers participated, seeks better wage conditions for full-time waiters, with the intention that they do not depend on tips to reach the federal minimum wage .

Susan Sarandon worked in a restaurant
According to US news site Spectrum Local News, Sarandon used to be a restaurant worker and single mother and said that restaurant staff who receive tips must be paid a living wage to get the respect they deserve.
“I know how hard it is…they are very, very important, they should be treated with dignity,” Sarandon said of tipped restaurant workers. “They were essential, they were the ones that remained [durante la pandemia] who kept the economy going.”
This is not the first time that Susan Sarandon has been arrested, in 2018 the actress was arrested during protests on Capitol Hill against the immigration policies of then-President Donald Trump.
