(CNN Spanish) – December 12 was already a special date for many Mexicans for the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Now, a legend of national music has just made it even more significant.

Vicente Fernández dies at 81

Vicente Fernández, the greatest of ranchera music in Mexico, died this Sunday at the age of 81 in a hospital in the city of Guadalajara, according to a publication on his official Instagram account.

Many people in Mexico and abroad, including celebrities and politicians, have given their condolences to the family and have also remembered the legacy left by the “charro de Huentitán”.

This is how the world reacts to the death of Vicente Fernández

Although his career extends to the world of cinema, Vicente Fernández leaves behind an unattainable heritage in the musical aspect: he recorded more than 300 songs, sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, won three Grammys and eight Latin Grammys.

In those dozens of albums, there are some that are born from unforgettable live concerts, among which four stand out.

1. “An Aztec in the Azteca”

It is about the farewell concert offered by Vicente Fernández. It took place at the Azteca Stadium (located in Mexico City) on April 16, 2016, the same year that the homonymous album was published.

2. “A Mexican in Mexico (Live)”

The concert “A Mexican in Mexico” was held on September 15, 1984, and in that year the album of the same name was published. However, until June 22, 2010, the full video concert was released, which bears that name because the place where it happened was the Plaza de Toros México (in Mexico City), better known as “la México ”.

“The god Tlaloc performed the miracle for him, stopping the rain for a few hours and allowing him to give an emotional concert to more than 54,000 souls who filled the Plaza de Toros and were able to see A MEXICAN IN MEXICO for more than 2 hours,” he says. Vicente Fernández’s website.

3. “Vicente Fernández First Row”

In 2008, the “charro de Huentitán” recorded an album completely live, in “first row” format, which included his greatest hits.

Vicente Fernández’s website indicates that it is the “first material published in Blu Ray format, being the first artist in Latin America to venture into this modality.” Likewise, “it was the best-selling music DVD of the year in the entire record industry” in the United States.

4. “Vicente and Alejandro: Together for the Last Time”

According to Vicente Fernández’s website, the first time he sang with his son Alejandro was in 1975, when he was just 4 years old at the time.

After 28 years from that moment, Alejandro and his father Vicente gave a five-hour concert in 2003 before more than 50,000 people at the Foro Sol (Mexico City), according to the local media La Jornada.

From this recital, the album “Vicente y Alejandro Juntos por Ultima Vez” was published, which includes solo and duet performances.
