Spider-Man: No Way Home is already available in theaters around the world, but before its release, Sony and Marvel they had to be extremely careful about leaks. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding this film, and Willem Dafoe, who returned as the Green Goblin, detailed how both companies managed to keep so many secrets up their sleeves.
chatting in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Dafoe disclosed the procedures Sony and Marvel carried out in the production of No Way Home to avoid leaks:
“They did it in an incredible way. These Marvel movies have a sensational fan base. People are very curious when it comes to these movies. Even when they’re being produced, everyone already wants to know what’s going on. Sony and Marvel decided to keep some of the elements for Spider-Man: No Way Home a secret.
When I went to the film set, they wrapped me in a black cloak and always kept me in a car with tinted windows. They didn’t want me to go anywhere because they didn’t want anyone to know that I was in town shooting this movie. And I didn’t think it would work, but it did. Before the film was released, the trailers were released. It was great.”
Even with these efforts, a few days before its premiere, several key elements of No Way Home which in the end turned out to be completely true. In the same way, the community really enjoyed this film, which officially became the highest grossing of all Mexico.
Publisher’s note: I think Marvel has always done a good job of dealing with leaks. With Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releasing this year, you’ll need to be even more careful as it looks like we’ll be getting a ton of cameos from different franchises.
