Every year and several months before the awards are held in Hollywood Oscarmuch of the film critics launch their predictions of who will be among the nominations of the films that have already been released and those that are yet to be released.
On this occasion, the critics of the American magazine Variety presented the lists of each of the categories to be awarded and Some Argentine names of weight appear.
For each of the categories, the specialists make a list made up of between 30 and 40 names which, in turn, are ordered according to levels of probability: “The Predicted Nominees Are” (“The probable nominees are…”, where the five with the most chances appear), “Next in Line” (“Following in the list”), “Other Top-Tier Contenders” (“Other contenders of first level”), “Also In Contention” (“Also in the fight”) and “Other Awards Possibilities” (“Other possible winners”).
Thus, in the category Best Supporting Actressin position number 11 appears Griselda Sicilian (on the “Other Top-Tier Contenders” level) for his role in Bardo, false chronicle of a handful of truthsfilm by the four-time Oscar winner Gonzalez Inarrituwhich tells the story of a Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns to his country and works through an existential crisis while dealing with his identity and family relationships.
In the category Best Actor the one that appears is Ricardo Darinwho puts himself in the role of Julius Julius Caesar Strassera for Argentina, 1985, the movie of Santiago Miter inspired by the true story of the prosecutor and also of Luis Moreno Ocampo, who in that year prosecuted the members of the Juntas of the military dictatorship, who were in power from 1976 to 1983. In the ranking of VarietyDarin is in the place number 35 (in the ”Other Awards Possibilities” platoon) in the same ranking as Viggo Mortensen, Zach Efron Y Brad Pitt. For its part, Peter Lanzaniwho plays Moreno Ocampo, appears on the general list of applicants.
Miter’s film also appears among the bets to win a prize and is in the section Best Original Screenplay, which is signed by Miter and Mariano Llinás. In the list of possibilities he is ranked number 19 (“Other Top-Tier Contenders”).
In that same category there is another Argentine, Nicholas Giacobone, who co wrote the script for Bard… beside Gonzalez Inarritu. For Variety is in the position Number 4 of potential nominees.
Argentine cinema is going through a great moment of exposure during the awards season. In August, there will be an “invasion” at the Venice International Film Festival, one of the most acclaimed and prestigious in the world. Argentina, 1985 will compete for the Golden Lion and Griselda Sicilian also competes for his leading role in Bard… The festival will take place from August 31 to September 10.
