Approaches Halloween and movie fans terror they use the date as an excuse to go back to see the best films that the genre has produced throughout history.
Many consider that Psychosis (1960), by Alfred Hitchcock, is the best film of the genre for the iconic scenes it has and because it was the kickoff that would later give rise to the popular slashers of the ’80s.
Others still have nightmares with The glow (1980), by Stanley Kubrick, and consider it the scariest movie in history. It is impossible to forget the creepy twins who invited little Danny Torrance to play, among other iconic scenes.
Some will prefer the more visceral terror of Alien, the eighth passenger (1979), by Ridley Scott, which tells the story of the Nostromo cargo ship, which is interrupted in its journey and awakens its seven crew members when it detects a transmission from an unknown life form.
rosemary’s baby (1968), by Roman Polanski, is also among the most terrifying films in history. The film tells the story of a young couple trying to have a baby and moving into an aging and ornate apartment building on Central Park West, where she finds herself surrounded by quirky neighbors.
Many consider that The Exorcist (1973), by William Friedkin, must also be considered among the best horror films in history. When it was released in the 1970s, moviegoers swooned in theaters at the story of a teenage girl possessed by a malevolent entity and her mother trying to enlist the help of two priests to free her from it.
Others surely want to include Nightmare in Elm street (1984), by Wes Craven, because Freddy Krueger ruined their childhood or adolescence; while some will surely include Halloween (1978), by John Carpenter, among the most terrifying films in history because it laid the foundations for all the slashers that would come later.
