What is the best order to watch the ‘Indiana Jones’ saga?

He June 28th hits theaters Indiana Jones and the dial of fateafter passing through the cannes film festival. Harrison Ford plays the archaeologist for the last time with the help of his goddaughter (Phoebe Waller Bridge) in an adventure where he repeats john williams as a composer but not the usual Steven Spielbergwhich he preferred to limit himself to producing while the management fell into the hands of James Mangold. The film is one of the great releases of the year, and in lucasfilm they know.

For this reason, in collusion with Disney, the idea is to offer viewers the opportunity to either review the previous films in the saga, or to discover them for the first time to plunge into the euphoria that arouses the dial of fate. Hence Disney+ has recently announced that the may 31 the platform will have the first four films of Indiana Jonesin addition to that series issued by abc between 1992 and 1996 titled The adventures of young Indiana Jones.

More than enough to know everything there is to know about the archaeologist, although as usual in these situations, the question arises as to what is the best way to catch up among so many titles to choose from. As we follow the plot, two fundamental viewing strategies can be glimpsed: the chronologicaland the one that obeys release order.

Chronological order

Harrison Ford and Kate Capshaw in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ (1984).

as if of fast & furious it was treated, Indiana Jones took a bizarre turn around its equator, positing that Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a prequel instead of the second part of in search of the lost ark, which happened on the billboard. A situation that can be even more complicated by the existence of Indiana Jones Adventures and indeed flashback in Indiana Jones and the last crusadewhich could force us to make the partridge dizzy a bit.

Be that as it may, and adjusting to the years spent on the screen, the first thing to see is… the first twenty minutes of Indiana Jones and the last crusade. It’s a flashback introductory with the cried river phoenix that narrates his first adventure, although this is qualified because the chronology of The adventures of young Indiana Jones it was more or less coincidental. Perhaps the indicated thing is to see that flashbackstall the last crusade and get with The adventures of young Indiana Jonestaking advantage of the fact that both are in the same catalogue.

'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' (Steven Spielberg, 1989)
‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ (Steven Spielberg, 1989)

The aforementioned flashback is set in 1912while the series orbits between 1908 and 1918with small jumps to the future that deserved the cameo of Harrison Ford although, in general, the protagonist had the face of Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick. After this little mess we have to go to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doomsince its story is set in 1935. in search of the lost ark takes place just one year later, in 1936and most of the footage of Indiana Jones and the last crusade develops in 1938. These films have in common the presence of the Nazis as great enemies.

And then everything in a row. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes a leap in time similar to what happened in real life, ending up in 1957 for the Cold War to erect the Soviet Union as a new hotbed of enemies. the dial of fatefinally, it is set in 1969in the middle of an expedition to the Moon, and raises the possibility that there are Nazis infiltrating the US. To summarize:
