Elizabeth Shue She made her film debut in a big way: she was Daniel LaRusso’s girlfriend in “Karate Kid” (1984) and a few years later she fell in love with Marty McFly in “Back to the Future II” (1989) and “Back to the Future III” (1990).
The ’80s were ending and Shue was already one of the most well-known faces in the industry, thanks to these hugely successful films that continue to garner fans decades later. That did not seem to be her destiny: raised in a wealthy family, she was going to study Political Science at Harvard University and her father was even a candidate for senator.
She started out working as an advertising model and soon landed the role of Ali Mills on “Karate Kid.” “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise (1988) followed, and after actress Claudia Wells had to step down from the “Back to the Future” sequel to take care of her mother after a cancer diagnosis, Shue took her place.
In full success, tragedy struck her. While she was filming “Back to the Future III”, her brother died in a car accident, so her appearance in the third time travel movie was minor.

Somehow, this affected his rising career, although he never stopped working. In 1995, she returned with a bang, with “Goodbye Las Vegas”, a film that earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
