This scene has provoked strong criticism of the movie ‘Blonde’

The recently released film ‘Blonde’, starring Cuban actress Ana de Armas, has had a strongly polarized reception, because while it has been critically acclaimed, a large part of the public is disgusted with its high sexual content.

In social networks, hundreds of users have reacted negatively to the portrait that has been made of the iconic actress Norma Jean Baker, better known as Marilyn Monroe.

The vast majority of complaints are due to the explicit sexual content, which many consider unnecessary and see as one more way to exploit the memory of the Hollywood diva, who, of course, is no longer in a position to defend herself.

Many others have criticized the historical inaccuracy of the work, stating that there are many things that never happened or that there is no way of knowing what happened as seen on the tape.

In this regard, from the beginning of the promotional campaign, the filmmaker Andrew Dominik clarified that the film is not a biography as such, but rather that it is based on the homonymous novel by Joyce Carol Oates, published in 2000, and that it narrates the life of Marilyn from her perspective.

Although this narration takes place chronologically as a biography, and taking events from the actress’s real life, the use of fiction to “complete the pictures” stands out, since an exact biography would be impossible since Norma died without leaving memories.

This has not prevented many from accusing the film of being “morbid” and of profiting from Marilyn’s suffering, in addition to sexualizing her even more than the industry did since its inception.

One scene in particular caused special annoyance among viewers, and it is the one in which the notorious “love affair” that former President John F. Kennedy would have had with Marilyn is consummated.

Although this rumor has been denied and revived on several occasions, the truth is that, whether it really happened or not, it remains one of the best-known and most accepted “gossips”, not only in Hollywood, but in American history.

The theory that the movie star’s suicide occurred due to the manipulation of Kennedy, a married man many years older than her, who would have pushed her to have a relationship with him despite knowing that he would never reciprocate, It has been widely accepted for decades, despite refutations.

However, the approach to this issue in the film by Ana de Armas has left several viewers upset, and questioning the morbidity with which both characters have been represented on screen.

Blonde arrived on Netflix this September 28, and although at the Venice Film Festival it received a six-minute standing ovation, among the public there have been multiple criticisms of Dominik, De Armas, and the film in general.
