The serious accusations that corner the premiere of the controversial film ‘Sparta’

The movie ‘Sparta’ is in the midst of harsh accusations. A few days after its world premiere in Spain, San Sebastián, the film by the Austrian Ulrich Seidl was canceled in Toronto due to suspicions related to abuse and exploitation of minors during filming.

However, that is not all, the media in his country of origin published new accusations.

Falter magazine claims to have recorded the testimonies of several people employed in production and filming, which took place in 2018 and 2019 in Romania, and requested anonymity.

Article recalls the investigation of the German weekly Der Spiegel, published earlier this month, which among other things accuses Seidl of having deliberately concealed from minor and non-professional actors, as well as their parents, that the film addressed the issue of pedophilia.

Seidl, who denies the accusations, has assured that he spoke of “all the essential contents” of his tape “in many individual conversations” which he maintained before filming, accompanied by a translator.

However, Falter assures that a translator who worked for “Sparta” in 2018 and 2019 expressly contradicts the filmmaker, stating that she herself exhorted those responsible from casting non-professional actors in Romania to not revealing that the film was about pedophilia.

“What we were telling the families was that we were making a film about a man who moves from Austria to Romania, restores a school and takes care of Romanian children.”

Other employees criticize situations of negligence and danger of minor actors (between 9 and 16 years old) during filming, such as a dangerous maneuver in a car or the inadequate care of a sick child and with a fever.

One of the adult actors was an alcoholic and by Seidl’s will he went very drunk to shoot a scene in which he had to insult a 9-year-old boy, that he burst into tears during the filming, assured another witness of the scene.
