The movie of the nurse who murdered dozens of patients that comes to Netflix

Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain star in a movie that will soon arrive on Netflix and tells a dark true story: the case of a nurse who serially killed patients who were hospitalized in the hospitals he worked.

The film focuses on how one of the nurses who suspected what was happening (played by Chastain) risked her life to discover the truth.

The film, which will hit the platform’s catalog on October 26th, was directed by Tobias Lindholm and is based on the book “The Good Nurse”, which journalist Charles Graeber published in 2013 about Charlie Cullen, the author of the murders. Cullen confessed to 40 homicides, but investigators say there were many more.

The man would get into patients’ rooms at night and give them a lethal dose of medicine. Some were elderly on their deathbeds, but others were in good shape.

The man worked for 16 years in hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where he ended the lives of these patients. Currently, he is serving 17 life sentences in prison.

The preview shows how nurse Amy Loughren (Chastain), a hospital night shift worker and single mother with a heart condition, went to great lengths to find out what was really going on after a series of mysterious deaths.

“I live in New York and I had no idea who Charlie Cullen or Amy Loughren were. Upon learning of this story and that it actually happened, I was so disappointed in the for-profit hospital system and medicine and the idea that this could go on for so long and be covered up. I was very impressed with Amy because without her this killer would have continued,” Jessica Chastain told Entertainment Weekly.

Chastain said that to get fully into the role he used a headset with which he listened to his heartbeat, due to his character’s condition. Redmayne, meanwhile, trained his movements with a specialist -Alexandra Reynolds-, who had already helped him play Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

“It is a question of why a medical professional got away with killing people on purpose for so long. When I read the book, I realized that it wasn’t just another serial killer movie. It was a representation of a system that didn’t stop the serial killer, and the nurse that did,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter.
