Romefrom the director Alfonso Cuaronwas the first Mexican film to win the statuette Best Foreign Film. In addition, he managed to charm the public and critics alike.
The film has the peculiarity of being in black and whiteis slow-paced and stands out for the exact recreation of the social context that prevailed in Mexico in the 70’s. It is mainly a criticism of the social differences that existed in the country, whose discontent caused one of the most remembered tragedies, the Corpus Christi massacre.
Cuarón dedicated this film to Libo, a woman of Mixtec origin who took care of him since he was little. And he based on his life story to create Cleo, the protagonist of the story, starring Yalitza Aparicio, also of Mixtec descent. Thanks to her role, which is worth noting is her acting debut, she managed to be nominated for best actress at the Oscars.
Despite the boost his role gave him and the good reviews he received, Aparicio was unable to add any other interesting projects to his filmography. In recent years he appeared in the music video Pla Ta Taof the singers Mon Laferte and Guaynaa; she also participated in the short film daughters of witches by Faride Schroeder in 2021.
However, 2022 seems to be the lucky year for the Mexican born in Oaxaca, since she will be part of the film presences of the Mexican Luis Mandoki and the television program MidnightFamily. In addition, it is expected that his name will resound again with the premiere of the 4th season of Mujeres Assasinasadaptation of the Argentine series of the same name.
The series was broadcast for the first time in 2008, has become a classic of Mexican television and currently has 40 episodes. The fourth part was long in coming, since the third season was broadcast almost 12 years ago, in 2010. And it returns hand in hand with Vix+, streaming platform that emerged from the merger of Televisa (Mexican media outlet) and Univisión (American television network). The new season is expected to have eight chapters based on stories of women who, after suffering abuse or violence, resort to murder.
Unlike the other parts, the stories are based on events that happened in real life. And, although the role of Yalitza has not yet been confirmed, there is no doubt that her return generates great expectations.
