A few weeks before the version is released live action of The little Mermaid, Disney has released an extended clip of one of the most iconic scenes from the animated classic. The film stars Halle Bailey as a new incarnation of Ariel, the mermaid who wishes for a new life for herself out of the ocean.

One of the most memorable songs from the 1989 film is the one that corresponds to when the protagonist interprets the song “Part of Your World”. Now Disney has shown a longer clip of this reinterpretation by Bailey, singing about how she wishes she were “part of that world.”

“That voice is something that is so distinctive and so ethereal and so beautiful that it captures Eric’s heart, and he looks to it for the whole movie,” director Rob Marshall told EW of Bailey’s jaw-dropping take on Ariel. to filmmakers during the audition process. For his part, the composer and producer of the project, Lin-Manuel Miranda, explained that “Halle is perfect for the role. She’s going to blow your mind.”

Bailey will perform songs from the original film, though some of them will have updated lyrics. There have also been new themes written for the film by Miranda and Alan Menken. “It’s about your experiences the moment you hit land. We needed to create a number that could almost function as a montage, so that we could take her through that experience: coming down to earth, what it’s like to put on shoes, to have legs. Anyone who has a different experience is wonderful and terrifying at the same time,” Marshall explained.

Marshall directed the film from a script by David Magee. In addition to Bailey in the title role as Ariel, the film stars Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Also appearing are the voices of Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.
