‘The Godfather’: Francis Ford Coppola’s immortal film returns to theaters and we can already see the trailer of its restored version to celebrate its 50th anniversary

I hope you put in your agendas the February 25 because that day Paramount will release in theaters the fully restored version of ‘The Godfather‘. A special occasion to celebrate 50 years of Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece.

Also, on March 22nd (a couple of days before the anniversary date itself), said restored version of the trilogy will be out on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray y digital. Thus we will be able to see materialized a process that has taken years and that, from what we hear in the trailer, has also been redoubled in its Spanish version.

A job that has taken three years between Paramount and American Zoetrope, Coppola’s production company, who has personally supervised the entire process. One that has not been born from scratch but has been based on the restoration carried out in 2007 by Rober Harris.

three years of work

In total, they speak of more than 300 boxes of tape scrutinized by heart; four thousand hours invested in repair blemishes of the negatives; thousand hours correcting the color for HDR tools to respect the original vision of Coppola and Gordon Willis, the cinematographer; and a restoration of the mono tracks from both ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The Godfather Part II‘.

In Coppola’s words:

«I am very proud of ‘The Godfather’, which defined the first third of my career. With this 50th anniversary tribute, I’m especially proud that ‘The Godfather, Epilogue: The Death of Michael Corleone’ is included as it captures Mario and my original vision in finally concluding our epic trilogy. It’s also gratifying to celebrate this milestone with Paramount alongside the wonderful fans who have loved it for decades, the younger generations who find it still relevant, and those who are discovering it for the first time.”

It is not the only work that we will see to celebrate this anniversary of ‘The Godfather’ since in February we will see ‘The Offer’, a miniseries about the creation of the first film.
