After avoiding various obstacles on its flight path, Top Gun: Maverick was finally able to bomb theaters. The sequel to the 1986 film continues to cause a sensation, not for nothing did it become the most box office of the year. Now, Quentin Tarantino commented on his experience with the blockbuster Tom Cruise.
Tarantino has a hilarious connection to Top Gun. In 1994 the director was part of sleep with me (Sleep With Me) in the role of Sid. During one scene, Quentin’s character shares a review of Top Gun (1986) with a friend. “It’s one of the best scripts ever written in Hollywood history.”, Sid begins by saying. As he advances with his opinion, he comes to the conclusion that Maverick and Iceman, the characters of Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, have a relationship beyond being wingmates. “(Iceman) is a man fighting against his own homosexuality”, Sid assures while maintaining that Maverick is tempted by his partner to go “to the gay side”. “You have Maverick, who is on the limit, and also Iceman and his whole team. They are gay, they represent gay men”, he adds.
With the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick the scene resurfaced making all the director’s fans laugh. Now Quentin will be able to make a new review, since he could see the return of Tom Cruise as the admiral Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
The cinemablend podcast had Tarantino as a guest. During the talk, they talked about the long-awaited podcast that the director and his great friend roger avery they created, called The Video Archives. While promoting his next project, Quentin revealed that he finally saw Top Gun: Maverick. The director of Kill Bill had words of choice, noting that he was “a true cinematic spectacle”.
“I usually don’t talk much about new movies because then I’m only forced to say good things, or else I’m punching somebody. And I don’t want to do that. But in this case, I love Top Gun: Maverick” shot the director. “I saw it in theaters, that one and Spielberg’s West Side Story, both provided a true cinematic spectacle, the kind I almost thought I wouldn’t see anymore. It was fantastic”, he added.
Tarantino highlighted the work he did Joseph Kosinski respecting the original work of the deceased Tony Scott. “Tony’s respect and love was in every frame. He was in almost all the decisions. She was consciously right there, but in this really cool way that she was really respectful”, he commented excitedly.
Tarantino’s words are correct, Tom Cruise’s film offered a true show worthy of the big screen. The wait for its premiere was completely worth it and the box office numbers bear this out.
At the moment Top Gun: Maverick still does not have a defined horizon in streaming, the good thing is that they want to see the film of the year, it can still be done in theaters, since it remains in theaters.
