Cameron’s formula for Aliens was to keep horror and science fiction, but upping the ante with the inclusion of more lethal xenomorphs and adding one more genre, action. To all that combination is added an iconic character, Ellen Ripley of Sigourney Weaver. The crew member of the Nostromo returned and not as a survivor, but as a hero.

The Jake’s Takes site interviewed Weaver for the premiere of his most recent film The Good House. “It was a big surprise for all of us because he was in that other world. I think Jim Cameron created an amazing structure for the character of Ripley, to start with no one believing her and thinking she’s crazy and all that other stuff. He gave me a lot to work with, and I really appreciate that the Academy community got over any prejudices they may have against this kind of sci-fi genre and nominated me for the actual job. Because I think it’s an amazing role, and I was very honored to be nominated.Sigourney explained.
