San Diego Comic Con 2022: Marvel’s bombings, DC’s defeat and more news

Another year, another wave of advertisements for movies and series on the . Netflix, Paramount Plus and other studios revealed news, but all that took a backseat when Y , the heavyweights in blockbuster superhero content, had panels on the same day; where the second presented Phases 5 and 6 of his cinematic universe.

DC without Flash or Aquaman

The Warner Bros subsidiary focused only on what it will have in the short term. First, the new trailer for “Black Adam” (October 2022), which marks the entry of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into the franchise as an antihero who faces the heroes of the Justice Society. The project means so much to the actor that he even arrived at the event in his black suit, while lightning effects surrounded him. The first trailer for “Shazam! The absence of news about “Aquaman 2″ and “The Flash”, films with respective premieres in March and June 2023, drew attention. Both stories have controversial actors, be it Amber Heard after losing the lawsuit brought by Johnny Depp for defamation; or for the multiple accusations of violence against Ezra Miller that have become a problem for the studio, which has invested too much time in a film that is almost ready and that has already been postponed several times.

Warner also did not announce anything about “The Flash”, the oldest superhero series it has and whose season 9 could be the last. But the company has other giants on its hands in two different streaming services: “The Sandman”, an adaptation of the comic written by Neil Gaiman that arrives on Netflix in August; and “House of the Dragon,” a prequel to “Game of Thrones,” coming to the HBO Max streaming service later that month.

Marvel and its ads

Marvel Studios revealed exact dates for 15 of its live-action movies and series over the next three years, divided into Phases 5 and 6; several titles that were already known, in addition to confirming others of which there were only journalistic reports.

As novelties are the films “Captain America: New World Order” (May 2024), where Anthony Mackie returns as the shield hero replacing Steve Rogers; and “Thunderbolts” (July 2024), which revolves around a team of villains tasked with saving the world. The Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again” (first half of 2024) was also confirmed, starring Charlie Cox, an actor from the Netflix series of the same name. It will have 18 episodes. Two new “Avengers” movies were also confirmed, both for 2025: “Kang’s Dynasty” and “Secret Wars”. This last tape would condense what the so-called “Saga of the Multiverse” represents, where heroes from multiple realities join forces to face a common enemy.

The Marvel panel closed with the teaser trailer for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (November 2022), presented by the cast and director in an emotional way of paying tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. The film is confirmed to star Mexican Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a secret nation that rules the oceans.
