Ricardo Gil Lavedra questioned a key detail of Argentina 1985: “It is unforgivable”

Ricardo Gil Lavedra questioned in harsh terms Argentina 1985the film that describes the Trial of the Boards in which the current president of the Public Bar Association of the Federal Capital served as a magistrate.

interviewed in Leuko’s diary (LN+), the former Minister of Justice of Fernando de la Rua gave his impressions on the film directed by Santiago Miter and starring Ricardo Darin Y Peter Lanzani in the roles of prosecutors Julio Strassera Y Luis Moreno Ocamporespectively.

“I saw it twice, the first at a private function attended by the four judges who survived and then I accompanied my wife to see it at a Pilar cinema,” he acknowledged. And she added: “I have a more benign opinion. It is a commercial film, with the lightness that this supposes. This politically sweetenedwell acted and realized”.

However, he raised numerous objections regarding the film, which came to theaters and Amazon’s Prime Video platform with great success. “I share many of the criticisms,” he said. there are omissions, some rare, others inconceivable. For example in the final plate, when they put the laws of impunity and rule out pardons. it’s unforgivablebefore the minimum professional rigor that a plate that is placed at the end can have”.

Regarding the almost complete absence of the then president Raul Alfonsin of the plot, Gil Lavedra was more forceful. “There would have been no trial without Alfonsín. I assign it to certain intellectual laziness of the filmmakers, with very little they could have been more consistent with reality. What’s more, reality would have given him a better dramatic plot than some of the ones they invented, ”he indicated.

In this context, he revealed that the members of the court that judged the boards were not consulted regarding the writing of the script: “Even when we went to the premiere, the director did not speak with us and hardly [lo hizo] briefly darin. If they had distilled better from historical sources, the product would have been better, but it seems to me that they were looking to make a commercial product”.

Despite his criticism, he acknowledged that “it is healthy that this discussion has been opened about this episode that was foundational for our democracy” and summarized: “It is a light product, it is made to please. I hope I win the Oscar.”.

The former deputy of the Radical Civic Union during the government of Raúl Alfonsín and current president of the General Auditor of the Nation (AGN), Jesus Rodriguezshared his impression about the film Argentina 1985centered on the trial of those responsible for the last civic-military dictatorship and revealed details that were not included in the film.

Last October 3, during his visit to Argentine Odyssey (LN+), program hosted by Charles Pagnialso former Minister of Economy alfonsinista pointed out some differences between what is exposed in the film material and reality. “First of all, it is important to highlight that prosecutor Strassera, who was in charge of the Trial of the Juntas and whom I consider a friend and true hero, was able to carry out the accusation because CONADEP was first”said.

CONADEP did a great job. The case did not occur by spontaneous generation. And it’s the president’s decision [Raúl] Alfonsín created such an association, which was later reproduced in other countries of the world. It is neither more nor less the first case of a truth commission in the world”, he highlighted.

“Argentina has no future isolated from the world.” The analysis of Jesus Rodriguez.

“From CONADEP came a document called Never more either Saturday Report, in honor of the president of the commission, Ernesto Sabato. Later a book was made with millions of copies sold. But none of this is in the movie”, lamented Rodriguez. Once the clarification was made, he marked another aspect that the film directed by Santiago Miter overlooks, which has as protagonists Ricardo Darin and Peter Lanzani in the roles of Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, respectively.

“During the trial, many witnessed the dramatic and heartbreaking testimony of Adriana Calvo de Laborde -physicist, teacher and researcher kidnapped during the last military dictatorship-. Her exposure lasted more than five hours. that day was [Jorge Luis] Borges in that session, who put together an impeccable text that was later published by EFE Agency and daily The country. But for some unknown reason, none of that was replicated in the movie.”, Rodriguez specified.

Finally, he agreed with Gil Lavedra in questioning one of the phrases in the last sections of the film: “He says ‘after the convictions, there were laws of forgetting’. What they did forget was to talk about pardon. It is something that is not quoted”. Despite his reservations at a historical and plot level, the former radical legislator considered Argentina 1985 as a “extraordinary merit” that allows “to take a look at the fact to half of the Argentines who were not contemporaries”.

“There are great actors. I hope he wins the Oscar. Lots of people in the rooms. When it goes to the platforms it is going to be very massive. only praise for them”, he highlighted.

Rodríguez ended the television interview with a reflection on the judicial process that culminated with five military leaders convicted -Videla, Massera, Viola and Lambruschini- and four acquitted -Graffigna, Galtieri, Lami Dozo and Anaya-. “It was something really surprising, a decisive issue for the Argentine nation and of which we have to be proud. It was the result of a vocation, decision and conviction”he concluded.
