Universal Pictures has presented the film in Paris, France, and the first reactions from critics place it among the best of the filmmaker, with special praise for the cast, in which Cillian Murphy stands out as the protagonist, but also mentions the rest of the actors: Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett and Rami Malek, among others.

oppenheimer is inspired by the book American Prometheusof kai bird and Martin J Sherwinand follow the physical J.Robert Oppenheimer, who led the Manhattan Project, which gave rise to the first atomic bomb. The tape has attracted a lot of attention because the director presumes that he did not use computer effects to recreate the explosion, but the first reactions will be more than enough to attract the attention of those who were undecided about going to see it or not.

#Oppenheimer blew me away: a character study on a grand scale, with a sublime central performance by Cillian Murphy. An epic historical drama but with a distinctive Nolan sensibility: the tension, the structure, the sense of scale, the striking sound design, the remarkable visuals. Wow.

Christopher Nolan’s #Oppenheimer is truly a spectacular achievement, in its truthful and concise adaptation, inventive storytelling, and nuanced performances from Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and many, many others involved, some for just one scene.

Totally engrossed in OPPENHEIMER, a dense, loud, tense film partly about the bomb, but mostly about how damned we are. Happy summer! Murphy is good, but the supporting cast is essential: Damon, Downey Jr and Ehrenreich even bring gags. A bold, inventive and complex film to mystify its audience. The bad? Women are poorly served: Emily Blunt only steps out of the role of stressed-out mother to her once. But she’s squarely in my Nolan top three, along with Memento and The Big Trick.

I’m torn between being secretive and mysterious about Oppenheimer and just going out there and saying it’s a total knockout that cracked open my brain like a nervous plutonium core and left me sobbing through the end credits like I can’t remember what else. And for all those who have complained about the lack of sex in Christopher Nolan’s previous work… boy oh BOY you’ll have plenty of sex here as only Nolan could depict it here.

OPPENHEIMER is… amazing. The word that keeps coming to mind is ‘scary’. An intricate, incredibly detailed, relentlessly paced historical drama that builds and builds and builds until Nolan strikes the hammer in the most amazing and devastating way.

One sign that French audiences loved #Oppenheimer is that they hung out in front of the Grand Rex theater long after the movie ended to discuss it.

Another person who had shared his reaction was the same co-author of the book, kai birdwho last month in a conversation at the Institute for Advanced Study stated (via Variety):

As I am, at this point, in a daze and emotionally recovering from seeing it, I think it will be an impressive artistic achievement, and I am hopeful that it will actually spur a national, even global, conversation about the issues Oppenheimer was desperate to address. Talk about how to live in the atomic age, how to live with the bomb and McCarthyism, what it means to be a patriot and what is the role of a scientist in a society steeped in technology and science, to talk outside of public affairs.
