Great news for the universe of DC Comics movies and series. After much uncertainty and shortly after the departure of the hitherto head of the studio, Warner Bros Discovery has decided to hire none other than James Gunn as one of the two responsible for all of DC in animated films, series and projects.
From now on, DC Studios will be led by James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs (co-executive directors) and co-presidents. All responsibility for the future of the now called Universe of DC (formerly known as DC Expanded Universe) will be under the responsibility of Gunn and Safran. In other words, Gunn will be the architect responsible for shaping what we see in the DC universe in the future, its plans and connections. Kind of similar to what Marvel has with Kevin Feige overseeing everything, so to speak.
Of course, Gunn already has experience in the DC universe. The filmmaker was responsible for directing and writing Suicide Squadand was in charge of the series peacemakerthat will have a second season. Gunn was known to be part of more dc projects, but it was not known that he would be in charge of everything. (Currently, Gunn alsoandn is pending the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in the Marvel universe). On the other hand, Safran is a producer responsible, among many other things, for having helped create the shared universe of the films of The spellin addition to having participated as a producer in the films Aquaman, Shazam! Y Suicide Squad.
It’s promising news for the DC universe. That the people in charge are not only executives but have that creative vision, gives us hope that from now on these movies and series could have a better course, interesting projects, innovative and generally good productions. Cross our fingers.
