“This is the girl”

What was once thought of as a possible sequel of ‘Twin Peaks’ and then a scrapped pilot for a standalone series, it eventually became one of David Lynch’s masterpieces. Furthermore, in a survey conducted by BBC to 177 critics was chosen as the best film of the 21st century.

The story takes us to Hollywood, where Betty (naomi watts) arrives to fulfill her dream of being an actress. However, she gets a surprise when she finds someone in her new flat: Rita (Laura Elena Harring).a beautiful stranger who has lost her memory and carries with her a bag full of money.

As usual in Lynch’s works, the premise is nothing more than the starting point that will lead to a work full of mysteries, unexplained situations, dreamlike moments and more pieces than we will surely need to complete the puzzle.

Like ‘Lost Highway’ either ‘Inland Empire’the film cannot be read in a linear way only (especially in its second half), but rather plays with symbolism and correspondences in a set of mirrors open to interpretation.

However, reducing the film to what each viewer can interpret would be totally unfair, since it is in itself a true cinematic experience. Its unhealthy atmosphere, its wide and disturbing range of characters and its magnetic images in its representation of this nightmarish Hollywood are worth getting swept up in.

An explosive cocktail of genres that mixes noir elements, dreamlike images, moments of terror and even absurd humor. A true feat in which Lynch managed to resurrect an unfinished project from the ashes and turned it into what is considered by many to be his masterpiece.

If you haven’t yet dared to enter the labyrinth of ‘Mulholland Drive’, you already have it available on the platform.
