the gender of terror continues to be one of the most consumed by film and television fans. The productions of the genre have become widely popular among subscribers of streaming platforms, as well as on the big screen. Since the year began, fans have enjoyed titles like scream, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hex, among others. And now comes a proposal that you will not want to miss.
In 2009 it hit theaters The orphan (The Orphan), the film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgarard and Isabelle Fuhrmann. That film tells the story of a couple who adopt a 9-year-old Russian girl and who, after some time with her new family, begins to show strange behavior. It is soon revealed that Esther is a 33-year-old woman with a rare disorder that makes her look like a girl.
Now the terrifying villain is back and thirsty for revenge with Orphan: First Kill. This new installment is a prequel to the story presented in 2009, as it focuses on the character of Esther and her first victims. The story follows Leena, who poses as Esther Mauerova, the missing daughter of Katie and Richard, a couple who begin to experience problems when Katie becomes suspicious of the “girl”.
The new film features performances by Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawa and Isabelle Fuhrmann, who returns to put himself in the shoes of Esther. The actress was just 12 years old when the original Orphan was released. She is now 25 years old and although she looks somewhat older, her appearance is still mostly youthful, allowing her to pose as the missing girl.
Orphan: First Kill It is directed by William Brent Bell, who took the director’s chair after the passing of Jaume Collet-Serra. The screenplay is by David Coggeshall, from a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alex Mace, who wrote the original screenplay and story for the first film.
Undoubtedly, the new installment looks full of terror and suspense, which will allow fans of The Orphan to reunite with the terrifying Esther and her sinister plans to sow terror within a new family. Orphan: First Kill will hit theaters in August, followed by a premiere on Paramount Plus.
