EW has spoken with the developers of the highly anticipated game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where they discussed Venom’s casting, his role in the game, and showed off an exclusive photo of the character.
this is what we know
Bryan Intihar, Senior Creative Director at Insomniac Games, said that Venom’s casting was scarier than the character himself. For him, it was one of the things that he avoided for the longest time because he was so afraid of who would voice the character.
In the game, Venom is voiced by Tony Todd, known for his role in the movie Candyman. Intikhar heard Todd’s gravelly voice in the movie’s trailer, but it just so happened that Tony sent a voice recording of him to audition for the role of Venom in the game.
Brian also said that, for him, Venom is about power, the feeling of fear and all-consuming, and Tony fully embodies that in his performance.
And senior director Jon Paquette mentioned Peter Parker, who in the sequel will be infected by a symbiote that will later become Venom. This decision is explained by the fact that one of the great things about Spider-Man as a character is that he always has to make sacrifices, and the symbiote provides “a lot of grist for the mill.” John also added that the symbiote doesn’t just affect Peter. His loved ones and the family surrounding the bearer have to see what happens to the person they love. And there’s a lot of drama to be drawn from that.”
And at the same time, EW showed off an exclusive photo of Venom, which will appear in the game:
