Diego Luna has reason to celebrate. After having starred 6 years ago in the film Rogue One, belonging to the Star Wars universe, the Mexican actor returns this time to the small screen to tell the story of his character, Cassian, in a dark political espionage thriller.

‘Andor’ is the name of the new Disney Plus streaming series, in which Luna is not only the protagonist, but also serves as executive producer, quite an achievement for the Latin artist.

During what has been the promotion of the series, Luna took the opportunity to remember how it came to be part of this media franchise a few years ago with ‘Rogue One’. The actor stressed that this film “dare to be different, to seek another tone, to completely detach itself from what was being done in the saga.”

Likewise, he highlighted the audience of the production at the time of offering him a job opportunity of this magnitude. Luna thought it was a joke until things got so serious that there was no doubt. Everything was finally cleared up when the same director of the film -Gareth Edwards- told the actor “I saw ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ and I really wanted to work with you.”

Luna’s conclusion was quick and simple. “I would not have imagined it. If not, I would have gotten naked earlier, ”she said between laughs. “So doing ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ brought me here,” He said in relation to the film he starred in with Gael García Bernal and Maribel Verdú in 2001, under the orders of Alfonso Cuarón.

‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ was a great success at the time and became the fourth highest-grossing Mexican film. The kiss shared by the actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal caused a great impact on Latin American society, while the jury of the Venice Biennale recognized the film with the award for Best Screenplay and the work of Luna and García Bernal deserved them the Marcello Mastroianni award in the same competition.

Regarding García Bernal, Luna commented that when he was summoned by the director of Rogue One, he did not fully understand what it was about. “I said, he’s selling me something here, but I didn’t dare ask him, ‘hey, are you telling me that you want me to do the movie?’, because what if he said no. How about he says, ‘no, dude, I want to know if you have Gael’s phone number’. So I said, ‘I’m not going to ask anything,'” the actor commented.

The truth is that his work was convincing, to the point that he was called again to now tell how the rebellion against the Empire began. Luna advanced that this story flirts more with realism than any other, “since there are no Jedi or mystical powers to rescue you,” she said.
