hypnotic is an American science fiction action thriller film, co-written and directed by Robert Rodríguez, the same name behind Sin City and Battle Angel: The Last Warrior, among other. The film features an all-star cast that includes Ben Affleck as the protagonist, along with Alice Braga (I’m legend), JD Pardo, Hala Finley (Paradise: the path of crime), Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games), Jeff Fahey (Battle Angel: The Last Warrior), Jackie Earle Haley (Dark Shadows) and William Fichtner (Batman: The Dark Knight).
The American action-intrigue thriller hits the big screen on May 12 and centers on a detective embroiled in a mystery involving his missing daughter, and a secret government program, as he investigates a series of high-profile heists. level.
hypnotic is co-written by Robert Rodriguez and Max Borenstein (Lakers: Time to win, Godzilla). The first image of the feature film it features Affleck with a concerned look on his face, holding what appears to be a snapshot of his daughter.
Going a little deeper into the characters, not much is known about the roles that each actor will play, only that Finley will play the protagonist’s missing daughter. As for filming for the feature film, it took place at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios as well as in the Austin area, including locations on Mueller and at Republic Square in downtown Austin.
Some time ago, the director of hypnotic revealed to Collider that he had been dreaming of making this film for more than two decades, describing it as “a Hitchcock-style thriller but on steroids”, adding that the film has many turning points that make it energetic.
Separately, in a 2019 statement, Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov also spoke of the film, stating, “Working with Ben on his award-winning projects such as Argo and The Town, I have seen how his versatility and creativity have made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera. It’s very meaningful to collaborate with Ben again on this unique and compelling suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific movie together.”
Although the film has not been released, there are already good reactions about it. Variety’s Peter Debruge referenced it as follows: “Filled with imagination and sheer cinematic wit, the film reminds us how much fun it is to watch Ben Affleck in action. Rodríguez knows better than almost any other filmmaker that cinema is a form of hypnosis.
hypnotic is a co-production between Studio 8 and Solstice Studios in which Rodríguez, Robinov, Guy Danella and John Graham serve as producers. It opens on May 12 in the United States, still without an official date to arrive in Latin America.
