in 2019 Gerly Hassam Gómez Parra (in the fields of comedy he is known simply as Hassam) publicly announced that he suffered from multiple myeloma, that is, cancer of the plasma cells. There are several times that the Bogota native has talked about his fight against the disease and, recently, he put the issue back on the table on behalf of the next premiere of his film ‘Sana que sana’.

August 11 of this year was the date chosen for the premiere of the aforementioned feature film which, according to its synopsis:

“Rogelio Pataquiva as a “todero” of the Green Clinic is faced with a great dilemma: support the “super bald” -children with cancer- which would mean postponing his dream of knowing the sea or continuing with his “normal” life and boring. In a great adventure in which the super-balds become super heroes, Rogelio manages to confront the bad guys by making them pay for their audacity and infamy of stealing the health money.”

It is worth remembering that ‘Rogelio Pataquiva’ is one of the characters that Hassam plays both in his comedy routines and in movies, since with this character he also starred in the feature film ‘Agente Ñero Ñero 7′.

Returning to the topic of ‘Sana que sana’, it is worth mentioning that the film could not be anything other than a comedy. In addition, during the development of his filming, the comedian was undergoing chemotherapyRegarding this issue, Hassam said in a recent interview for El Tiempo:

“While we were shooting the movie I was in treatment, that’s when I say that if the mind is busy it’s something else. When I get on a show dizzy, depressed, bad, during that hour and a half I forget. In these days that we finished post-production, I had my last medical check-up and the oncologist told me that I am cancer-free, I attribute that to God, science and comedy. To continue sucking rooster to cancer. It was a bad joke, at some point, that made me reflect on my work as a comedian.”

And, precisely in terms of his work with comedy, in 2020 Hassam He assured in an interview for the program ‘Los informants’: “What has saved my life is humor, cancer is one more test, now I am more grateful because after a chemo when I can’t sleep, the next day if I can get some rest I am grateful to be able to sleep, I am grateful to be able to take a red”.

The humorist has among his acting repertoire the interpretation of some characters, including his iconic ‘Rogelio Pataquiva’. In addition, he has captured his talent in humor in programs such as ‘Happy Saturdays’. On the other hand, the Bogota native has also set foot in the cinematographic field with feature films such as the aforementioned ‘Agente Ñero Ñero 7′, released in 2016 with Gabriel Casilimas bearing the title of director.

It should not be left out that, in 2019, he developed as a participant in ‘MasterChef Celebrity Colombia’, but the one who emerged victorious as the winner on that occasion was Adriana Lucía (singer).
