Amazon Prime Video has released the final trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It was already taking a long time to find a consistent advance, which even without great details of the plot would serve to get an idea of what the series can offer, since it has its premiere scheduled for september 2. That day, competing with another large-scale heroic fantasy like the house of the dragon (prequel to Game of Thrones) on HBO Max, the broadcast of the episodes of this first season will begin, Amazon having already renewed for a second installment and a total of five being planned if all goes well.
The company has spent $450 million in obtaining the adaptation rights of J. R. R. Tolkien and develop production, hence it is the riskiest bet that Amazon has ever made. Weeks after its release, however, an unknown factor remains about the project, that the latest trailer for the rings of power only intensifies: who composes the music of the series of The Lord of the rings? Amazon has never made it clear, but the fact is that the latest advance of the rings of power unequivocally refers to Jackson’s trilogy through sound. Because, in the first few seconds of the piece, it sounds something very similar to Howard Shore.

There are reasonable doubts, but the music that bursts into the last trailer in the first five seconds is highly reminiscent of the Rivendell theme that Shore composed, and that was played in all its splendor in The Fellowship of the Ring when various peoples of Middle-earth attended the Council of Elrond. Since in the trailer it sounds next to the face of Galadriel (a relative of Elrond who in the series has gone on to interpret Morfydd Clark after the remembered role of Cate Blanchett) and what appears to be a panorama of Rivendell, the print seems to fit. Which brings us to the age-old question: is Howard Shore working on the rings of power? Or, on the contrary, has the series simply wanted to pay tribute to him?
Posts to sell such a risky series, shielding the connections with the beloved Jackson trilogy seems like a good strategy, as it would be to hire Shore. Erskine seems comfortable limiting himself to trailer music, but when it comes to the rings of power another name was soon dropped: Bear McCreary, who would be working closely with Shore on the score for the Amazon series. Nothing has been confirmed yet, however, which is strange considering how close the series is to Amazon’s arrival. The use of a fragment of the Rivendell theme in the latest trailer could, for its part, mean that the figure of Shore is going to be fundamental in the soundtrackbe part of it directly or not.
The composer, for his part, has recently worked with David Cronenberg in crimes of the futurewhich premieres in Spain this September 23. We will see if, a couple of weeks before, we can confirm that Shore has returned to Middle-earth as he wished.
