Guillermo del Toro almost signs for Marvel Studios

Director Guillermo del Toro knows what it’s like to make movies with comic book characters, but he was also about to make the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the filmography of William of the Bull we find movies like Blade II (2002), hell boy (2004), Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) or Pacific Rim (2013). so yes Marvel Studios decided to hire him for one of his deliveries, he would surely do a great job. That is something that was about to happen, so he says Neil Gamanresponsible for the comics of The Sandmanwhose adaptation is succeeding on Netflix.

In a recent interview on the podcast of Josh Horowitzthe comics writer Neil Gaman talked about his relationship with Marvel Studios.

“Kevin Feige and I have talked several times over the years about things. The only one I wish, although I probably think the way they did it commercially was better… But I remember back in 2007 having minimalist conversations with Kevin Feige about: What about Doctor Strange? Then talking to Guillermo del Toro, we had these ideas about Doctor Strange and there were conversations with Kevin about: I could do Doctor Strange with Guillermo. And basically, they said: We just want to focus on the main characters right now. Doctor Strange is way over the line, we don’t want to go there.”

Kevin Feig kept his word, since they first started with Hombre de Hierro, Captain America, Hulk Y Thor. So we had to wait until 2016 to see the origins movie of Doctor Strange.

This is how the movie would have been Doctor Strange of Neil Gaman Y William of the Bull:

“There was some great stuff in it. What I liked most about Doctor Strange was the idea of… The only thing we really wanted to do was have his adventures, him becoming an alcoholic and a disabled doctor. All of that kind of stuff happened in the 1920s. So the idea is that he went through all of that and the training to become the world’s greatest wizard, maybe early 30s, late 20s, and he’s been living in Greenwich Village for 90 years looking the same in his place, and no one really notices. We just liked that idea, and he would have been out of time. But other than that, he would have been kind of Steve Ditko, because, you know, that’s the best thing.”

The director has several interesting projects.

After your movie the alley of lost souls only raised 39 million dollars, now he will try it with a darker version of Pinocchio which will premiere in Netflix. He will also make a documentary about Michael Mann. Although, who knows if in a few years, Marvel crosses his path again and can adapt some of his heroes.

While Doctor Strange He is currently one of the most important characters in Marvel Studios, and hopefully they will make the third installment in the next few years. Meanwhile, you can review all your adventures on the streaming platform Disney Plus, which can be accessed through this link.
