Even with this excellent news, not everything has been happy in the horror saga, since for this sixth part, Neve Campbell, in her iconic character as Sidney Prescott, will not return to history. This will be the first feature film in the franchise in which the actress will not participate. Also this time, the story will move from the classic town of Woodsboro to New York City.

Directed once again by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, scream 6 It will continue with the survivors of the latest Ghostface murders: sisters Samantha and Tara Carpenter, as well as twins Chad and Mindy Meeks. Now the plot will locate the protagonists leaving their town and trying to start a new chapter in their lives. However, very soon they will realize that the past returns and haunts them, when a wave of murders breaks out and they realize that the person responsible is a new Ghostface.

One of the things that fans of the franchise liked the most was the return of Hayden Panettiere in his popular Kirby Reed character. The last time she was seen, Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) had stabbed her and it was not until the fifth installment that viewers found out that the young blonde had not died, since she managed to survive the murderer after all.

In recent statements to Entertainment Weekly, Panettiere spoke a little about her character, assuring that “She has come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the end of it all. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as insightful, sarcastic, and all those good things that have defined her in the past.”

Although the next film will mark the great return of Kirby, the actress explained that at the beginning of the filming of the sixth installment “I felt a little left out. It’s true. I kind of felt like I had to find my way back to the new group because that team had done the previous movie. But they were all very welcoming. It was interesting, they made me part of their family that I had already been a part of. So it was like an estranged aunt got back on the road.”

For her part, Melissa Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter, announced that the story will begin shortly after the previous installment, so the characters have not yet recovered from what they experienced last year. “It hasn’t been long since the last movie. More or less, the amount of time we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that’s passed in his world. So the trauma is still fresh. One of my favorite parts is that we really get to see how the events of the last film affected them. We can really see the baggage they’re carrying now and how each of them is handling it differently.”

The filming of this sequel began in February of last year in Montreal, Canada, -and, later, in New York- under the production of the companies Spyglass Media Group, Project X Entertainment and Radio Silence Productions. Its total budget was $35 million, almost $10 million more than its predecessor (it grossed $140 million at the box office).
