Nobody is bitter about a good spoof movies. These parodies, if well treated, they rarely fail to deliver a healthy dose of laughter at the expense of referents that deconstruct and squeeze every last drop in order to generate comedy; and as it shows there are jewels like ‘Land as you can’the saga ‘Grab it however you can’ or, if you rush me, some other delivery of ‘Scary Movie’.
The crazy (and prolific) history of galaxies
Perhaps, among all these productions, one of the ones I keep most fondly in my memory is ‘The crazy story of the galaxies’ —’Spaceballs’ for English speakers—; a hilarious space adventure with which the legendary Mel Brooks turned the universe upside down ‘Star Wars’ which the filmmaker celebrates as one of his greatest commercial achievements.
This was suggested in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the film’s premiere.
“I’ve done a dozen movies, some of them big hits, and all of them have been surpassed by ‘The Crazy Tale of the Galaxies.’ It never fails to sell.”
But, of course, putting a franchise like ‘Star Wars’ in the spotlight could suppose some other legal problem with George Lucas. Brooks confesses that he was afraid that the father of the galactic saga would sue him, especially after receiving a brief “It’s okay” after I sent him a copy of the script for his approval.
shouldering
Finally, Lucas gave the arm to twist, but with a single condition that Mel Brooks remembers: “You can’t do merchandising. You can’t have, you know, a Dark Helmet doll, because it would look too much like ours.”. Something completely logical if we take into account that his empire has been built on action figures and collector’s items.
However, although all this may suggest a tangle of tensions and forced smiles, when ‘The crazy story of the galaxies’ entered its production phase, Lucas pitched in and gave in to his special effects company Industrial Light and Magic. to get the post-production phase back on track.
Of course, there was still a stumbling block to overcome, and that was none other than showing the finished feature film to George Lucas. Fortunately, as Brooks told in an interview with AV Club, the experience was largely satisfactory.
“He wrote me a lovely note telling me how much he loved the movie. He said it was a dangerous comedy. He said, ‘I was afraid to break something laughing.’ He wouldn’t have sued me anyway. It’s not that kind of thing.” person”.
And it is that it’s too hard not to succumb and burst out laughing with moments as mythical as the “space special”. The fact that Lucas is not that type of person, I would give to make a fact-check in conditions…

George Lucas helped create ‘The crazy history of the galaxies’, but the parody of ‘Star Wars’ had to meet an unappealable requirement
