From ‘What if…?’ to ‘X-Men 97’: Marvel’s plans with animation

Yesterday, Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con was occupied by Kevin Feig, dedicating himself during an evening to remember to launch very shocking news about the future of Marvel Studios. Among other things, Feige confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would conclude Phase 4 by surprise this November 11thgiving a few titles for Phase 5 and 6 including two movies from avengers for the last one, which would conclude the call (from now on) Saga of the Multiverse. With such high-octane revelations, any other Marvel-related announcements were overshadowed, but it wouldn’t hurt to bring up what was said a day earlier. Regarding his animated series.

Shortly after starting its journey in the original series destined for Disney +, Marvel produced What would happen if…? His approach, dedicated to reviewing various alternate realities in the Marvelite cosmos having Jeffrey Wright as a host, it was full of possibilities, which is why it was soon renewed for a second season. Nor in confirming a spin off, Marvel Zombiesbased on one of the episodes that showed a timeline with the Avengers turned into living monsters. The point is that What would happen if…? It has been preventively renewed for a third season, as it transpired within the Comic-Con in a similar way to other animated series that, apparently, have all the confidence of the Marvel Studios board. So we have to stop at I am Grootanthology series focused on the most lovable character in Guardians of the Galaxy this is released August 10 on Disney+. Well, a couple of weeks after its launch, Marvel has decided to renew it for a second season, taking the opportunity to launch a trailer for its initial episodes.

Another series whose preparation we knew and that also enjoys this confidence is X Men 97a revival of the mythical series of the X Patrol broadcast in the 90s (whose memorable musical theme was heard in a certain scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). X Men 97 It would arrive at Disney + in the fall of 2023, and although there is still enough for that, the House of the Mouse has also renewed it for a second season. Within the framework of the Comic-Con, in addition, it has been revealed that while Professor X will be the leader of the mutants in the first season, for the second this role will be exercised by Magneto.

X Men 97 It is based on nostalgia for a Marvel animated series long before the splendor that lives today, and it is such as the approach of Spider-Man: Freshman Year. This format is inspired by the series of spider-man of the 60s, but unlike X Men 97 remains clinging to the Marvel Universe: in fact it is set chronologically before Captain America: Civil War, so the nostalgia would come down to the animation style. Either way, Freshman Year will narrate the adventures of Peter Parker played by Tom Holland before receiving the call from Tony Stark.

The series would premiere in 2024, and although it will also have a second season (changing its title to Spider-Man: Sophomore Year) most interesting has to do with the characters that Marvel has confirmed will interact with Peter in Freshman Year. We will thus see the animated versions of Harry and Norman Obsorn, Scorpion, Rhino or Doctor Otto Octavius, as well as… Daredevil. In effect, Matt Murdock will incur Freshman Year counting on the voice of charlie coxin one of the many roles that the actor is going to play for Marvel outside of Marvel’s own series. Daredevil.

What are these roles? Well, let’s go list. Cox was first seen outside of the Netflix series in Spider-Man: No Way Home. At Comic-Con it has been known that she will also make an appearance in she hulkto be released this 17 of August on Disney+ (logical, since the series is a judicial comedy and Murdock could appear as a companion lawyer of Jessica Walters). He will then appear next to the Kingpin from Vincent D’Onofrio in Threw outand finally will star Daredevil: Born Againa series planned for the spring 2024 which will consist of 18 episodes. The latest sign that the Marvel universe is also expanding through animation.
