Four proposals to see this weekend, with “Argentina 1985” in the lead

Argentina 1985 (Movie, Amazon Prime Video)

Selected as Argentina’s national candidate for the 2023 Oscars in the category of best international film, “Argentina 1985” was an overwhelming success in the movie theaters where it was released, and since yesterday it is available in streaming.

The film, directed by Santiago Mitre, is inspired by the true story of prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, who in 1985 were the prosecutors of the Trial of the Military Juntas, which judged the bloodiest military dictatorship in Argentine history. Starring Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani, it has a very high level of performances and a rhythm that led to applause in several cinemas in the country. Recommended and necessary.

The Manager (Movie, Paramount +)

Paramount+’s first original film for the country, and a great challenge for the director Ariel Winograd, “The Manager” premiered this week on the platform.

It is inspired by the true story of the book “The Manager of Noblex”, about that remembered promotion of the TV brand in the qualifying rounds for the 2018 World Cup. The manager will then be the protagonist of this story starring Leonardo Sbaraglia and Carla Peterson, who will be accompanied by Luis Luque, Cecilia Dopazo, Valentín Wein, Marina Bellati, Mónica Raiola, Agus Suásquita and Ignacio Saralegui. An entertaining, original and very captivating bet.

An Argentine Crime (Movie, HBO Max)

Criminal and political investigation thriller, based on a true event that occurred in the 1980s: the intriguing disappearance of a businessman in the city of Rosario, within the framework of the Argentine military dictatorship. The case is assigned to two secretaries of an investigating court a few weeks before one of them emigrates to Spain. In a race against time, both lawyers will try to solve the case facing the interference of a police subordinate to the repressive power.

It has a cast full of figures such as Nicolás Francella, Matías Mayer, Luis Luque, Malena Sánchez, Darío Grandinetti, Rita Cortese, Alberto Ajaka and César Bordón, among others. It has a duration of 113 minutes.

The Stranger (Movie, Netflix)

“An undercover cop will create an intense and intimate relationship with a murder suspect to gain his trust and try to extract a confession from him”reads the synopsis of this premiere that was released last Wednesday on Netflix.

It is considered one of the best films of the year by specialists, and the critics do not stop praising the strange narrative paths that the director, Thomas Wright, takes us through.

With a duration of almost two hours, it has a cast made up of Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris, Ewen Leslie, Kameron Hood, Jada Alberts, and Steve Mouzakis, among others.

In addition, this film was officially selected for the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for best film at the Sitges Film Festival.
