This August 18 arrives in Mexican theaters ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero‘, where we can see Gohan, Piccolo, Goku, Vegeta and Pan face an old enemy of the saga. In addition to epic battles, new characters and a trip to the saga’s past, this new Dragon Ball movie comes with incredible animation.
Prior to the premiere of this film, we had the opportunity to talk with Lalo Garza, dubbing director of the project and also voice of our beloved Krillin. He told us about the film and, of course, how was the path for the selection of Luis Manuel Ávila to be the new voice of Gohan.
a refreshing animation
From the trailer we could see that this movie would have a different animation than we are used to. Being 3D type cell shading (flat shading) the fight sequences, power-ups, explosions, and stages stand out and look amazing.
So you cannot miss the opportunity to see it in the cinema, because you will be able to enjoy every last detail of this beautiful animation that the studio of Toei Animation.
An old enemy and the return of Gohan
In this film the main antagonists are the members of the red patrol, led by Magenta. If this group sounds familiar to you, it is because in the past they clashed with Goku when he was a child and are responsible in a certain way for the creation of the villain Cell.
In addition to the presence of this former enemy, we also see the return of Gohan, who has neglected his training and is more focused on his professional life and as a father. However, during the movie a series of events take place that force Gohan to leave this stage and demonstrate why he was considered the most powerful Saiyan.
Gohan and Luis Manuel Avila
Almost in a poetic way we see the return of Gohan as a Saiyan warrior accompanied by a new voice. That far from imitating the iconic work of Louis Alfonso Mendozaadopts his own personality and manages to maintain the essence of the character.
Lalo Garzatold us that the casting process was a long road but that in the end Luis Manuel Avila he proved to be the best candidate to play the character.
“One of the things that I liked the most about Luis Manuel is that although a media campaign was carried out by the fans for him to be the voice, He never contacted me and that is humility”, told us Lalo Garza on his choice. “I didn’t know what I was going to find and I found an actor, a disciplined actor, an actor who loves his profession”he added.
After the actor’s death Luis Alfonso Mendoza, The uncertainty of what would happen to the character’s voice invaded the fans, since the work that the actor did was unique. Lalo Garza had a great responsibility in his hands, because in this new film, Gohan is one of the most important protagonists and Luis Manuel Ávila does an admirable job with the character.
“I told Luis Manuel, if you keep this character, it will change your life, because he is one of the protagonists of the most important anime in Latin America. He is going to open the door to another world, to the world of dubbing, to the world of conventions, to the world of fans and he told me; I happy”He told us Lalo Garza on one of the talks he had with Luis Manuel.
