This week it was confirmed that Gears of War will have adaptation to film produced by Netflix in collaboration with The Coalition, to be followed by an animated series and perhaps more projects. There are no official names -no directors, screenwriters or producers- associated with the film but an actor has already positioned himself: Dave Bautista.

The actor and former WWE wrestler Bautista has been very clear for years: in 2018 he said that It would be his dream to play Marcus Fenixbut in 2019 Hollywood I wasn’t interested on the saga. Times have changed, with a multitude of video game licenses that make the leap to movies or series, and the actor has begun his particular campaign to get the leading role.
In a Twitter message, Bautista has cited Netflix and the official account of Gears of War with a clip of him from an old promo for gear 5 that allows you to unlock a skin for multiplayer. “I can’t make this any easier”, says those responsible for production. Cliff Bleszinski has given his blessing to the initiative: “As a designer of [Gears] 1, 2 and 3, you are my first choice.”
A character made to measure
“It’s in the hands of Universal Studios,” revealed Bautista four years ago. “I’ve been knocking on your door and bothering you, you’ve had enough of me [risas], asking them about that project. But yes, Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me. I want that role.”
Bleszinski has also speculated with some actors for this film, such as Karl Urban in the role of Marcus -if for some reason the chosen one is not a Baptist- or Ryan Reynolds for Baird. Those, there is a name that you would not like to see related to Gears of War: Chris Pratt -Baptiste’s partner in Guardians of the Galaxy-, which gives voice to Mario in the Nintendo and Illumination movie.
