Dungeons & Dragons is one of the fantasy games of all time. The original game was released in the mid-70s, and since then it has had multiple editions, being of great influence on popular culture. From its success, video games, board games, television series, movies and much more have emerged. In recent years it has become relevant again thanks to the series stranger things where its protagonists are constantly referring to the world of D&D.
As for the world of cinema, Dungeons & Dragons has had three adaptations in feature film format. The first was titled Dungeons & Dragons and was released in 2000. A sequel called Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon Godreleased in 2005, and finally, Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness, released in 2011 in video format. However, none of these were successful enough, so Hollywood got down to business.
It will hit theaters next year. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), the new adaptation of this fantasy world that has a cast made up of Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, sophia lillis Y Hugh grant.
After being a few years in development and the delays with the Covid pandemic, Dungeons & Dragons was taking shape and today it finally revealed its first breakthrough to the fans. The trailer was released during the film’s presentation at the comic-con from San Diego. In front of the exultant gaze of the fans and the press, and with the complete cast in Hall H, all those present enjoyed the first trailer and some extra material that was only shown to those who were present at the event.
The story revolves around a gang of thieves who embark on a risky mission to try to rectify a mistake that unleashed an evil power on their land. In this way, a bard, a warrior, a sorcerer, a druid and a knight must join forces to stop this force of evil, and along the way, face all kinds of threats that arise.
Action, adventure and comedy is what appears at first sight in this new adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons. Also, director John Francis Daley revealed that they worked with publisher Wizards of the Coast to make sure all of the D&D lore and mythology was present, and in the right way.
During the presentation of the film at the convention, the actors commented on their approach to the world of D&D, prior to the film. Chris Pine he confessed that he wasn’t much of a fan until his 13-year-old nephew introduced him to the fantasy world and he enjoyed long family gaming sessions. From there he became a great admirer of the game and assured that “it should be played in every school in the nation”.
For its part, Michelle Rodriguez he did know about the game and said that being a part of the movie brought back all those childhood memories of hanging out with his friends playing D&D in a basement. Just like her fellow cast member, Lillis is also a huge fan. She even recounted that during her adolescence she used to travel to her old school to participate in the D&D games of the institution’s club.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is scheduled to premiere on March 3, 2023.
