Brendan Fraser wins award in Toronto: “The last time I won something was for bowling at school”

If someone has monopolized the spotlight at the last Venice Festival (which just concluded this weekend crowning Colin Farrell, Cate Blanchett Y Luca Guadagnino) that has been brendan fraser. Apart from the juicy sauce that has surrounded Do not worry dear As for the alleged enmity of Florence Pugh with the director Olivia Wilde or the alleged spitting of Harry Styles a Chris Pinethe actor of The Mummy has been able to enjoy genuine affection from the audience, through social networks or from the festival’s own audience. All thanks to her acclaimed performance in The Whale: drama of Darren Aronofsky where he plays a man gay with overweight.

As the film was shown, Fraser received a standing ovation for several minutes. Finally, the Volpi Cup for Best Actor went to Farrell for Banshees by Inisherinbut in any case it is probable that the protagonist of george of the jungle is going to play an important role in the race to the Oscars. We have had another sign of this at the Toronto Film Festival: this contest is still far from over, but it has already held the gala for the Tribute Awards. These are alternative awards to the festival’s winners (appointed by the jury or the public), which are issued by the TIFF board itself, and which were inaugurated in 2019. The Tribute Awards are delivered shortly after the event has begun.

That’s where Fraser has shone again. According to VarietyFraser has received a Tribute Award for her performance in The Whale, officially starting his awards career. She has risen, then, to the stage, and has not been able to avoid making reference to the surprise of the tessitura. Between the 1990s and the early 2000s, Fraser was used to participating in commercial cinema, far removed from the academic or independent spheres that could have given him prestige. He basically he has never been involved in a phenomenon like The Whaleand Fraser has joked about it. “The last time I expected to hear my name receive an award was in fourth grade, for Pee Wee’s Bowling League.”declared as he went on stage with the award in hand.

Fraser added that the bowling award he was given at school had his name misspelled (“Brian Phaser”) and yet his mother tried to cheer him up saying that it was a great prize. Getting more serious, Fraser has thanked his fans for “keep you in the job you love”. “This is new for me. I’m usually the guy on stage who delivers these things.”he continued, to go on to refer to Aronofsky and the screenwriter of The Whale, Samuel D Hunter. “The art is to take risks, and you should know that they took a risk with me, something for which I will be eternally grateful.”

Later Fraser could be seen, at the dessert break, chatting with Michelle Yeoh. A picture that has also aroused the affection of the public, since both worked on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Yeoh, for his part, has also won a prize at the Tribute Awards: specifically the honorary award ‘Share Journey Groundbreaking’delivered between images of crazy millionaires Y Tiger and dragon. Yeoh is having a spectacular year, like Fraser, by spearheading the sensation indie Everything at once everywhere.

At another point in the act, Olivia Coleman has awarded the Ebert prize to directing Sam Mendesat whose orders he has been placed to star Empire of Light. An ode to movie theaters that has been screened in Toronto, and as a result of which Mendes (taking advantage of the fact that the ceremony is not televised) has recited a long speech in which he dedicated words of thanks to Roger Deakinsdirector of photography with whom he usually works. Hildur Guðnadóttir (Oscar winner for the soundtrack of joker) has also been recognized for the music of TAR: the film that gave Blanchett the Volpi Cup in Venice.

Finally, Harry Styles, another newcomer from Venice, has won the first acting award of his career thanks to the Best Cast award at the Toronto Tribute Awards. It has been for my policemandrama where he plays a policeman in the closet with whom he falls in love emma corrin. “We all really enjoyed working on this film. And we hope you enjoy it.”Styles has limited himself to saying, to then leave the stage.
