According to the official Marvel website, Namor will be the leader of Talocan, a kingdom hidden under the seas. This was confirmed during a statement in which the studio revealed that the composer of Black Panther Wakanda Forever, Ludwig Goranson, made trips to Nigeria and Mexico where he studied regional and traditional music to prepare the soundtrack for the film. This is what the press material says:

During the nights on those trips, we had recording sessions with contemporary artists similar to the characters and themes explored in the film. Using Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole’s script as the blueprints, along with recordings from traditional musicians, we began to build the musical vocabulary of Talocan and Wakanda characters, histories, and cultures.

Talocan, it seems, is a phonetically simpler version of Tlalocan, a place in Aztec mythology, according to the chronicles of Bernardino de Sahagun, was the paradise ruled by Tlaloc, god of rain. This missionary assured that the Mexicas described it as full of corn, beans and with abundant rivers and springs. This relationship with the aquatic for sure is what motivated the reference of him for the story of Namor.

The trailer of Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverit’s just a brief look at Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his town, which in the comics is Atlantis. However, it is believed that to avoid similarities with Aquaman- 73%Marvel chose to center the origin of this new dimension of its universe in Mesoamerican mythology and cultures to make it more distinctive and also to accommodate Mexican and Latino actors in its franchise.

About all the inspirations that will shape Talocan we really know very little. Huerta reportedly studied Maya for the role, indicating that other civilization will also be an inspiration for his characters. Likewise, it is believed, thanks to leaked conceptual arts, that the character could be the avatar of another Aztec god: Tepeyollotl and that is why the headdress, which we briefly saw in the preview, is shaped like a jaguar, an animal that, in other ways, , is also key to the mythology of these cultures.

Marvel today shared three themes, or the prologue, to the soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveramong them is “Soy” by the Mexican rapper Santa Fe Klan, you can now listen to it on platforms. The film, and the truth about many other surprises about Talocan and the future of the Black Panther, will hit theaters on November 11. So just be patient until you are introduced to this new realm of the Marvel universe.
