With the recent hit at the box office of Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets, the new CEO of Warner Bros., David Zaslav, wants to go back to the essence of Harry Potterbut first he will have to convince the author JK Rowling.

According to a report from PuckZaslav needs Rowling more than she needs him. The author controls the intellectual property of the saga to such an extent that Warner allowed her to write the scripts for fantastic animals, although I had no experience as a screenwriter. And while the first film grossed $814 million worldwide, it was not embraced by fans or critics. The second film grossed $654 million, and the third has grossed $405, making it the first production in the Harry Potter universe to lose money.

Now Zaslav has taken up the idea of one of his predecessors: to adapt the play into two films. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has been a hit in London and Broadway. With a story co-written by Rowling, the five-hour work takes place 19 years after the events of Harry Potter, including the protagonists of the original saga and their children.

The duology has all the ingredients to drive fans crazy, but Rowling has rejected the idea in the past, perhaps because it would have been like admitting that fantastic animals it was not working. And while the author may change her mind, the issues go beyond what she has to say. Rowling has been garnering controversy on social media over her comments about her trans community, causing the actors in the Harry Potter movies, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, to distance themselves from her and from his words.

On the other hand, the actors are barely over 30 years old and would have to be characterized to look a little more adult (hopefully with better results than in the epilogue of the last film). Radcliffe has also sworn never to play the role of Potter again (but that may come at a price).

In any case, there are no movies or TV series in development, so whatever Zaslav manages to pull out of the hat won’t see the light of day until 2025 or later, either Harry Potter and the Cursed Childa remake of the movies or a TV series for HBO Max.

We would love to say thanks to the author of this write-up for this remarkable content
