The European Union fined Meta again for breaching the data protection regulations on WhatsApp

Goalthe American social media giant, and owner of Facebookreceived a new fine for €5.5 million (6 million dollars) for breaching the data protection regulations of the European Union (EU) with its instant messaging application WhatsApp.

Reason why the CPD gave Meta a period of six months to “bring their data processing operations into conformity”.

This new penalty is based on reasons similar to the fine adopted against the technology group on January 4, in which Meta was sanctioned with 390 million euros, in relation to its social networks Facebook and Instagram.

In response to these punishments, the American technology and social media conglomerate based in Menlo Park (California), immediately announced his intention to appeal.

It is worth mentioning that the company had already received several sanctions from the CPD last year.

In September 2021, he received a penalty of 255 million euros for breaching his transparency obligations on WhatsApp.
