It’s not exactly uncommon for A-listers to own private jets, but some celebrities have shelled out hundreds of millions to make sure theirs outshines the rest. It is the ultimate status symbol, after all.
While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how much celebrities spend each year on their respective planes, the folks at Simple Flying have calculated how much they’ll be worth starting in 2022 and 2023. And here are the 15 most expensive private jet travelers, from sultans to tech billionaires. and Hollywood legends.
The most expensive private jets
First up is the Russian oligarch Alisher Umanov. Worth an estimated $19.5 billion, the businessman owns a massive Airbus A340-300.
This long-range wide-body airliner costs around $250 million ex-factory, but Umanov’s custom craft is reportedly worth $400 million. It is rumored to be the largest private jet in Russia and possibly in all of Europe.
Next up is Chinese billionaire Joseph Lau. The former president of real estate developer Chinese Estates has a Boeing 747-8 VIP in his garage with an estimated value of $367 million. Once again, the wide-body airliner suited his luxurious tastes.
The Sultan of Brunei took third place on this list of the most expensive private jets with his $230 million Boeing 747-430, which has been aptly nicknamed the Flying Palace.
Roman Abramovich came in fourth with a $170 million Boeing 757, while Kim Kardashian placed fifth with her custom $150 million Gulfstream G650ER, also known as “Kim Air.”
Surprisingly, the Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, entered the list with a Boeing 757 valued at 100 million dollars. British billionaire Richard Branson and American television royalty Oprah Winfrey came in seventh with planes valued at $75 million each. (Branson owns a fancy Dassault Falcon 50EX, while Winfrey has a luxurious Gulfstream GH50.) Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani’s $73 million Boeing Business Jet 2 put him in eighth place.
Ninth place is shared by four American businessmen: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, each of whom owns Gulfstream G650 ER aircraft valued at $70 million. Hot on their heels is business magnate Bill Gates, owner of a $66 million Bombardier 8000. Rounding out the top 15 is the one and only Jay-Z with his $40 million Bombardier Challenger 850.
