A group of anonymous employees of SpaceX has written an open letter in its internal communication system in which it denounces the behavior on Twitter of the founder and CEO of the company, Elon Musk. In his opinion, the billionaire’s public statements are “a frequent source of distraction and embarrassment for us, particularly in recent weeks.”
The letter, to which he has had access
‘The Verge’, describes how Musk’s statements and recent sexual harassment allegations against him are negatively affecting SpaceX’s reputation. . “As our most prominent CEO and spokesperson, Elon is seen as the face of SpaceX: every tweet he sends out is a de facto public statement from the company.
It’s critical to make it clear to our teams and potential talent pool that your message does not reflect our work, our mission or our values,” he says.
The billionaire’s Twitter activity is, to say the least, controversial. In April, he shared an image of Bill Gates and an emoji of a pregnant man, with the caption “in case you need to lose a boner fast.” Last year, he also responded to a tweet about Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company Blue Origin, saying, “Can’t get it into orbit lol.”
In the text, shared on the company’s internal channel in Microsoft Teams, it is stated that employees “of all spectrums of gender, ethnicity, seniority and technical roles have collaborated” in its writing. Additionally, employees are encouraged to sign off on the letter suggestions, either publicly or anonymously, with a signed version of the one to be provided to SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell.
The letter argues that the company is not abiding by its “no asshole” policy and its zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment, which they should apply consistently. To fix the problem, it says the company should “publicly address and condemn Elon’s damaging behavior on Twitter.” In addition, it should “hold all leaders equally accountable” for misbehavior.
