The parent company of Facebook, Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:FB), it won’t realize its ‘metaverse’ ambitions without drastic improvements to today’s telecommunications networks, according to has informed the CNBC.

Heralded as a gateway to some of these new metaverse experiences, Meta’s Oculus VR headsets require low latency and higher download and upload speeds.

“We need to develop a common language around network performance,” said Meta VP Dan Rabinovitsj.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, has stated that “creating a true sense of presence in virtual worlds through smart glasses and virtual reality headsets will require massive advances in connectivity.”

Executive Vice President of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) David Christopher has acknowledged that 5G rollout was faster than 4G along with “massive investment among carriers.”

This has added that the networks already offer low latency, constant speeds and high capacity. “This will only get better over the next decade to support many use cases across various industries, such as immersive and metaverse-like experiences.”

“Regardless of how the metaverse develops, it will depend on innovation and interoperability from many sectors, and advanced 5G connectivity will be an essential element.”

The movement of prices

Shares of FB were trading 1.85% lower at $207.26 when last checked on Wednesday.
