Elon Musk presented Optimus, a humanoid robot designed by his company Tesla that is capable of performing simple tasks.

The eccentric businessman has gone on the market to promote his new technological toy, and has already announced that he will launch millions of these at a unit price of 20 thousand dollars.

Tesla’s CEO believes he will start receiving purchase orders for his new humanoid robots in about three to five years.

Optimus is 1.73 meters tall, weighs 57 kilos and has five-fingered hands. He can walk and carry packages of up to nine kilos; he waters the lawn and is also capable of placing objects weighing up to 9 kilos on shelves.

In August 2021, the Tesla company had announced the creation of a humanoid robot, with the image of a prototype with a slender silhouette and with a chassis quite different from the archetype that Musk presented at last Friday’s event, in an act held in the company offices in Palo Alto, California.

The new design of this robot has much more realistic dimensions and size. Tesla also explained that the design change implies modifications both in its weight and in the power and level of movement.

Optimus is powered by the same Autopilot system found in Tesla vehicles; this allows him to move around his environment and recognize the objects he manipulates.
