Mark Zuckerberg assures that the metaverse “will improve the quality of life of people”

Against all odds, Mark Zuckerberg’s new megaproject advances, building what will be the next evolution of social networks, the internet and life itself. Furthermore, he is confident that the Metaverse “It will improve people’s quality of life”.

Since his announcement last October, with the change of the company’s name to Meta, Zuckerberg has shed light on what this will be. He plans to create a virtual reality (VR) platform, which combines digital objects with physical objects in our world through augmented reality.

He even hopes that you can feel that you are seriously in another “universe”; you can work through the metaverse, go to concerts through and endless possibilities.

This was not without controversy, mainly because the metaverse would come to life behind a screen, either with viewers or a computer. Various analysts, other great CEOs in the industry and various personalities warned that it would be absurd to spend 24 hours a day in front of the bits with nothing else to do. Even the eccentric Elon Musk proposes that his neural chip would be more efficient than wearing gigantic glasses.

However, in a recent interview for the joe rogan podcastperhaps one of the most tuned in the United States, Zuckerberg revealed several things about his private life and work, and gave more details of the still distant metaverse.

In particular, the CEO of Meta does not want the metaverse to be used for a long time, but rather that users take advantage of that experience efficiently. “I don’t want people to spend more time in front of their screens… (…) I just want the time people spend in front of them to be better”he explained.

These claims contrast with the latest complaints against Meta Platforms Inc. A mother recently denounced Meta for exploiting “vulnerable users” for higher profits. In the case of this mother of a family, her youngest daughter, 13 years old, began using Facebook at 7 and, from then on, she began to develop emotional and social problems.

It is not the only complaint that Zuckerberg faces. The association Social Media Victims Law Center jointly sued Meta, TikTok and Snap for, supposedly, promoting suicide among adolescents, due to its very structure.

And just two months ago, Meta faced 8 simultaneous lawsuits for provoking actual or attempted suicides, self-harm, eating disorders, severe anxiety, depression, and a decreased inclination or ability to sleep, among other reported injuries.

For his part, Zuckerberg did not comment on the matter, although he referred to the Meta platforms in terms that have nothing to do with the content of the complaints. “If someone reacts with some kind of anger, we never have this reaction to show it to other people”assured. “We just don’t want to amplify the anger”.

Finally, according to Zuckerberg, his goal with the metaverse and virtual reality is to replace traditional television. In this sense, people will be able to see it through glasses and not on a television screen. “It can be a big improvement in people’s well-being in general,” he added.

We will have to wait to determine if the metaverse really improves the quality of life of users or, on the contrary, aggravates the existing problems of social networks. We leave you with the Joe Rogan podcast with Mark Zuckerberg from August 25:
