Gates asks Seoul to lead efforts in health cooperation and vaccination

The also co-president of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said that he hopes to strengthen its association with the Asian country, at a time of “global health crisis” and promised to contribute ideas to develop new tools and resources to help the most needy.

The tycoon also congratulated Seoul for its commitment to donate US$200 million to the COVAX international anticovid vaccine distribution program and said that helping those in need is “correct and intelligent”.

“Not only will we fight infectious diseases like polio and measles, but we will save humanity from them”said Gates, who also pointed to “must prevent future pandemics from occurring”.

The billionaire said “COVID-19 must be put to an end”which has taught us that “we are all deeply connected”.

The businessman’s visit coincides with the announcement this Monday that the South Korean technology conglomerate SK will invest US$250 million in the TerraPower company, founded by Gates and dedicated to developing small nuclear reactors or modular reactors.

This investment is part of a fundraising round of US$750 million, co-directed by the businessman.

The Microsoft founder is also expected to meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Tuesday as part of his visit that will last until Wednesday.
